"Warhol: Dead at 21" at WOW Gallery

"Warhol: Dead at 21" at WOW Gallery

Production studio World of Wonder had another fantastic art opening at their Storefront Gallery on Hollywood Blvd. It was conceived and pulled off extravagantly by the unstoppable Thairin Smothers. Pictured above, the fabulous Lenora Claire and friends.

Every Hollywood nightlife mainstay imaginable was in attendance, including author/celebutante and subject of WOW's movie Party Monster, James St. James.

Here I am with friends Rachelle, Forrest and Chandler. doing "Edie Sedgwick," "Goth Elvis," and "Construction Worker." Minutes earlier I had undergone an improvised costume change to become "Fashion Terrorista!" There's Lenora again with Ian and Tony. (See the rest on Flickr.)

Doo-Dah Parade 2008 in Pasadena

Pasadena Doo-Dah Parade 2008 Pasadena Doo-Dah Parade 2008
I went to the 31st (Occasional) Doo-Dah Parade. The freaks came out as they do every year: Sperm Donors of Pasadena, Ren Fair Cos-Players, Count Smokula and more.

(I even saw two folks I didn't expect to see, Maureen & John Charles, marching with the "Shower to Empower" contingent.)

Casino Night Party at Neha's

Neha and Cezhan, two friends of mine from high school, had a Casino Night party up at Neha's lovely home in the hills. I got there early and helped set up lights. Knowing me from back in the day, Neha remembers that I'm a bit more "handy" than I let on.

There wasn't any detail missing and she still managed to get upstairs and make herself gorgeous before all the guests arrived. And they got the party sponsored by PINK Vodka. Remind me to get future house parties sponsored!

Bootie LA: Hot Mashed-Up Fun!

Bootie LA Bootie LA

The torrential rain kept no one away as DJs Mysterious D, Adrian and Paul V brought Bootie LA back to The Echo in Echo Park. The music, all Mash-Ups, was amazing!

In fact, it might have been wetter inside. Dancing never stopped except for Foxy Cotton's midnight performance piece. The place was packed, and the people loved it.

Even thought rain in LA usually keeps everyone at home, this was their fullest house yet! Bootie LA had a dedicated following that comes every month. You can include me on that list from now on!

See all the photos on Flickr!

I have to mention again that the music was phenomenal. Two of my favorites were Placebo vs. Pet Shop Boys vs Kate Bush - "Love Come Running Up That Hill Quickly" by DJ Magnet and Rihanna vs. General Public - "Tender Umbrella" by Party Ben. And the crowd completely lost control over Mims vs. Def Leppard - "Pour Some Hot Sugar" by A Plus D.

Skrulls! Why did it have to be Skrulls?!

Marvel's next big thing seems to be "Secret Invasion." From what I gather, it goes along the lines of: "Which characters have secretly been Skrulls all along?" This does sound intriguing; however, am I the only one whose "ret-con sense" is tingling...?

What I find ironic about the teaser image is the inclusion of Phoenix. I mean they've already done "Phoenix wasn't Jean Grey but rather an alien entity" didn't they? I know we're all supposed to think of that as the Origin-of-Phoenix now, but really... that was a ret-con.

Admit it! Phoenix was just supposed to be Jean Grey with her powers at full volume (like in X3) and then when they wanted to bring her back they added the "cosmic entity" gunk which has since convoluted and re-convoluted her origin. Just sayin'.
